“The Painter Stroke” is the first in a series of animations that dissect aspects of my studio practice. 240 hand-drawn frames brought this stroke to motion.
The connection of body to medium is undeniable for artists, dancers, musicians, builders, etc. The physicality of making a sound, a cut, a line is integral to the privilege, pleasure, and pain of creating. I think of a painting as a ballet with movements recorded on canvas. The stroke is a dance move until there is paint on the brush and becomes a mark on the canvas- a movement now frozen, held in time.
